Have you upgraded your browser?
Many people do not know what web browser they are using, or for that matter, what a browser actually is. They often confuse web browsers with search engines, such as Google.
A web browser is a software application for retrieving, and presenting information resources on the internet – it ‘shows’ you the internet.
Web Browsers include:
- Internet Explorer
- Firefox
- Chrome
- Safari
- Opera
Whilst decent web developers strive for full browser compatibility, most no longer support older web browsers, most significantly IE6 – probably the most hated piece of software ever released. Despite being 12 years old - ancient in Internet terms - many, particularly in South Africa, are still using it. Why? Probably, because they don’t know any better. Most people, simply use the browser installed on their computer.
Since IE6 was ‘bundled’ with Windows XP (for which Microsoft was sued by the US government), and Windows Vista failed to find traction in the market, IE6 remained in circulation far longer than it otherwise might have. Even Microsoft, the makers of IE6, are trying to upgrade people to one of their newer web browsers.
Most of the major websites however, have lost patience; Google, Facebook, and YouTube no longer support IE6.
If you are still using IE6 you may not be seeing websites accurately, or have the full functionality available.
The solution: UPGRADE NOW.
